BIO:

Joe "Sonny" Barbato is a pioneering voice in jazz accordion and one of Boston's finest musicians. He began with accordion lessons from Louis Bregoli at the age of nine, and then switched to piano at thirteen. Later, he rediscovered his passion for accordion, expanding his repertoire to include pop, rock, country, and jazz.

Joe has an impressive track record as a sideman and has toured Europe and the United States. He has worked and recorded alongside numerous notable artists, including Ravi Coltrane, Stanley Turrentine, Donald Harrison, and many more.

In addition to his mastery of the accordion, Joe Barbato is equally at ease on the piano, showcasing his versatile musical talents. With his piano skills in high demand, Joe is frequently booked for gigs, captivating audiences with his dynamic performances on this iconic instrument. Whether it's the rhythmic heartbeat of the accordion or the soulful melodies emanating from the piano keys, Joe's incredible musicianship knows no bounds, as he effortlessly moves between these two instruments, leaving listeners spellbound.

After years of being a sideman, Joe decided that it was time for him to take on the role of a leader. He is a firm believer in collaboration and feels that music is about the group rather than one person. Joe continues to perform and teach in New York City and Boston, eager to share his unique sound and mastery of the accordion with the world.
